A Call to Art: The Second Annual HIgh School Portfolio Review

A Call to Art: Portfolio Review

The Factory Works Gallery will be hosting a portfolio review on Saturday, September 24 from 11:00 to 4:00 PM. Sophomore, Junior & Senior high school students are all invited to bring a portfolio of their artwork to be reviewed by representatives from four regional schools’ fine art departments: Bloomsburg and Mansfield Universities, as well as Lycoming & Keystone Colleges.

This is a great opportunity for students to share their portfolios and receive feedback about their artwork, and for students and their families to learn about the collegiate art programs available in the region. The event will take place in, in studio 10 north of the Pajama Factory, where an exhibition of participating college student work will also be on display.

Portfolio Guidelines:

  • 2D & 3D work: 8 – 12 pieces
  • A Sketchbook
  • Digital Work: please provide website or hard copies (print outs)

You may bring a jump drive, but we cannot guarantee that schools will provide computer access. You may bring your own display system).

This event is sponsored by Factory Works, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization housed within the revitalized historic Pajama Factory complex in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The goals are to support and maintain communal studios and workshops, sponsor educational seminars and lectures, support and promote art-centric events, maintain an artist and artisan exhibition space, and to partner with local organizations and neighbors in an effort to engage the local community in the arts.

Hydroponics 101

Ever wonder about hydroponics, the technique of growing plants in water? It may seem like a daunting prospect, but it’s actually something that can be a simple, fun and inexpensive way to bring some green into almost any space.

We stopped by the Organic Garden Center this morning and Mark was happy to show us a system they’ve built (using PVC fence posts!) that had lots of young plants thriving in a window without much direct sun.

This Saturday at 1 PM – 2:30 PM, stop by the Organic Garden Center at the Pajama Factory for their “Hydroponics 101” class! It’s a free class, but you should reserve a spot.

See you there!
