Desdemona, A Play About a Handkerchief

In Desdemona, A Play About a Handkerchief, playwright Paula Vogel retells William Shakespeare’s classic tale of Othello from the point of view of the thankless heroine, Desdemona. Classically, Desdemona is portrayed as a sweet, chaste, innocent victim of Iago’s scheming. Paula Vogel goes a step further and poses the question, “What if Desdemona wasn’t so innocent after all?” This entertaining and delightfully irreverent story poses poignant questions about women’s roles, sexuality, and the search for fulfillment.

General Admission: $10 | Students: $5

Desdmona is produced by The Actors Group, a local, no-frills company focused on solid acting and telling the stories that so often get overlooked in our community. This production is directed by Amy Rene Byrne. Amy is currently an  adjunct professor at Lycoming College. She is a Tennessee native that now resides in Williamsport.
